Record delivery times for new cars
They have to wait more than 12 months for these cars
Are you waiting more than a year for a new car? This is perfectly normal for many models at the moment. But there are also a number of cars that are available directly.
A certain waiting time for the new car is completely normal for many customers and may even be desirable to some extent. This leaves a few weeks to let expectations of the new set of wheels, mostly configured according to your own ideas, grow. The problem at the moment: The time unit “weeks” does not even begin to include the delivery times that currently apply to many popular models. With a few cars, we have now reached “over a year”.
Before misunderstandings arise: We are not talking about exotic à la Mercedes G-Class, Toyota Land Cruiser or any high-tech sports car from small series manufacturers, which from time to time – and especially at the moment – has an on / off existence in the car market cease. Cars such as the plug-in hybrid variants of Range Rover Evoque, Mercedes GLA and GLE or Skoda Octavia Combi and the electric SUV Skoda Enyaq are classified according to their brands in the category “volume models”. All other cars that customers currently have to wait up to or at least twelve months for are also available in the upper regions of the new registration table during normal times (see slide show at the top of the article).
There is a shortage of supplier parts and raw materials
The reason for the sometimes extremely long delivery times is not primarily the popularity of the desired model. Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, there has been a lack of supply of supplier parts such as semiconductor chips, but also of the raw materials required for car manufacturing. A situation that has dramatically worsened since the outbreak of war in Ukraine. Customers who buy new cars are currently waiting an average of six to seven months for their car – and the trend is rising.
But the situation for car buyers is not hopeless. Even now they are still there: new cars that can be delivered immediately or within a few weeks. They are both combustion vehicles and those with partially or fully electrified drives and they come from every conceivable vehicle type: the Honda Jazz is as much a part as the Opel Astra, BMW X1 or Porsche Taycan. If you are looking for a new car that is available at short notice, you should take a closer look at the following table – there is certainly the right model for you. When the world is going crazy, of course, it applies all the more to the car market. The example shows: one requires the other. And as long as the corona pandemic is not held back and Russia’s campaign in Ukraine hopefully ends diplomatically, German consumers will also have to wait a long time and pay high prices.
